The episode was watched by 3.22 million American viewers, and received an 18-49 rating/share of 0.8/3, roughly the same total viewers number as the previous episode but down in the demo. The show placed fourth in its timeslot and fourteenth for the night.
Christine Orlando of TV Fanatic gave the episode a 4.5 out of 5, signaling positive reviews.
Ashley B. of Spoiler TV gave the episode a positive review. She said:
I was originally not terribly intrigued by the idea of this episode, especially since it was supposed to focus on Cyrus and I feel he is the least interesting of the characters. That being said, I enjoyed that this episode showed Cyrus's temper and the arrogance that was held at bay by the genie enchantment, creeping in around the edges. Also, the Red Queen's scenes with the Jabberwocky were cringe-worthy in the best kind of way. On the whole, this episode was a pleasant surprise and really displayed how high the stakes actually are in Wonderland. With only three episodes left in the season, who knows if good will be able to triumph over evil.
- Khalid Klein auditioned for the role of Taj which went to actor Raza Jaffrey.
Knave of Hearts: [about the bottle] That's my house he's holding now, and frankly, I hate it. There's not a lot of elbow room. And you know what else there isn't?
Alice: Please don't tell us.
Knave of Hearts: A toilet.
Taj: That's enough, brother. Better quit while we're ahead.
Cyrus: Quitting while you're ahead is still quitting.
The Jabberwocky: Tell me about the genie. Or would you rather talk about your two children? They're being bathed by their mother in the river as we speak. How quickly can she get there, you're wondering? How will she kill them? Will she have mercy on the baby? The answers are: very fast, very slow and no, I don't care much for babies.
The Jabberwocky: Shhh. Jabber, jabber, jabber. All you people do is jabber. The genie, where is he?
Villager: He was here. But I don't know where he went.
The Jabberwocky: Who was he with?
[when the villager does not respond, she whispers something in his ear]
Villager: [points to Lizard's house] She lives there. Please, please don't kill me.
The Jabberwocky: You misunderstand. I don't have to kill you because you're already scared to death.
[villager drops dead]
The Jabberwocky: [the Red Queen is protecting the bottle from the Jabberwocky] You'll have to do better than that.
The Red Queen: [looking for the Jabberwocky] What's the matter? You afraid, Jabber?
The Jabberwocky: I'm not the one trembling. I can feel your nightmares. I can taste your dread; your fear. You fear I'm going to find the bottle. But I know something you don't know!
[appears behind the Red Queen]
The Jabberwocky: I've already found it.
The Jabberwocky: [admiring the genie bottle] Fascinating, isn't it? On the outside it's nothing special. Nothing out of the ordinary. But inside, a prize more valuable than gold. Just like that head of yours. Nothing particularly interesting on the outside but inside... If I was to dig deep enough, there's no telling what treasures you've been hiding. So, let's find out. Shall we? Little pig, little pig, let me come in. I don't want to hurt you. I want to help you. You've suffered so much. You've already lived a life of fear, haven't you? You believe that if the prince had chosen you instead of your stepsister then your mother would have loved you. And now you fear that love is forever out of reach. And that deep, dark hole in your heart will remain empty. A hollow reminder of the life you could have had. Can you feel me inside that head of yours? Drifting from room to room? I can see everything. There's a darkness in you. It's like a disease. It's rotting you from the inside. You ran away from the only love you've ever had and now you fear you'll never get it back. You and I have something in common now. We both know exactly who you are, and you're terrified.
[looking at Will]
The Jabberwocky: It's only a matter of time before he knows too. You can't ever get his love back. But that's not really what you want, is it? Or you never would've donned that crown all those years ago. You made the right choice. Do it again. Wish for your precious, precious crown. Go on. Wish for your crown. And all your suffering goes away.
Knave of Hearts: Don't do it, Ana.
The Jabberwocky: Wish for your crown. And all *his* suffering goes away.
The Red Queen: [crying] I wish for my crown!
The Jabberwocky: Good. Now wish for your jewels. Go on.
The Red Queen: [through gritted teeth] I wish for my jewels.
The Jabberwocky: [to Will] Aw. Doesn't she look pretty?
The Jabberwocky: Now wish for me to stop.
Knave of Hearts: No.
The Jabberwocky: Go on.
The Red Queen: [whispering] I wish for you to stop.
